Why do some of the pros use a 2 or 3
iron off the tee when the have the option of using a wood? When you have a
relatively long shot, wouldn't the added mass of the wood increase your
range? I know there probably is a good reason. Tiger seems to do it
frequently. |

"It
depends on the shot, the wind and the distance. If they wanted
more distance and the wind wasn't into their face they probably
would choose a wood for distance. However, those guys get great
distance with their woods and maybe only need what a 2 or 3 iron
will give them. Don't compare anything you do with Tiger - you'll
lose." - Pat

"When the
shot calls for more of an accurate shot and the landing area is
only 235 -250 yards, they can hit an accurate shot of that length
with a 2 or 3 iron. A 2 iron also tends to fly lower, so when
conditions are windy, it's a smart play. You may want to use a 5
wood for these shots. It's the same loft as a 2 iron."
