I am left-handed but play golf right
handed. I bend my left arm on the back swing. Any ideas on how to stop and
drills that would help? Thanks! |

"Hi Parker: I'm also left-handed and play golf right-handed.
Because you're left handed, you should actually have more strength
in your left arm than right-handers, and so you should be able to
strengthen and straighten that left arm. When I was trying to
straighten my left arm for better performance in competition, I
found that a good drill was to take a full back swing with the
left arm only, keeping it as straight as possible. At first when I
did this, my arm would only go so far, and it would quiver with
weakness. But after I repeated this drill over several days (and
weeks), I found that the back of my left shoulder muscles became
stronger and more flexible, allowing me to turn more freely and
still keep the arm straight. Then when I became stronger and
straighter with the left arm, I started doing the same drill with
a weighted driver. That will really test your left arm strength!
But you can do it if you work at it long enough. A word of
caution: This drill can possibly cause tennis elbow in the left
arm if you overdo it right away. Go Slow! Good luck." - Bob
