From Pete, golfer:
I am in the process of finding a new set of clubs and I am not sure which way to go. I really like the new Hogan Edge clubs but I am not sure if they would fit me correctly. I was about an 8 handicap 2 years ago but I haven't been playing too much but I am going to start back up soon. So I would like to know is what clubs you would recommend. Thanks.

"Dear Pete: What ever clubs you like the looks of and then let the pro fit you and get them so you can demo different lengths and shafts." - Sean Gorgone, Teaching Professional

"Hi. I think the best solution would find a golf retail establishment in your area that has a qualified golf professional to professional fit you for a new set of clubs. Most manufacturers offer custom fitting these days and it is the best way to know exactly what is right for you. The options to be tested during the course of a professional clubfit should include:  shaft flex, shaft material, shaft length, lie angle, grip type, grip size and head design. Where I work at Dupont CC in Wilmington Delaware we custom fit for 7 different manufacturers. The student can then hit the various club designs and actually feel the difference in the features of each club. I believe that one should be able to "test drive" any equipment before they buy. This is the only way to truly know what would enhance your game. So, arrange to have a clubfit and take it from there." - Jennifer A. Cully, Teaching Professional

"My suggestion would be to check with your PGA or LPGA professional for a few golf lessons. It shouldn't take too many for them to tell you exactly what you need, and that is very important. Don't take just anyone's word on such an investment." - Patricia Kimball, Teaching Professional
Illinois
"Buy what is pleasing to your eye, and something you believe in. But above all make sure you get fitted by a PGA Professional to make sure they will work for you." - Scott Mayer, Teaching Professional
Minnesota
"The shaft is the most important feature. Go to someone who can measure your swing speed and make clubs with the proper flex for you. The head is relatively unimportant. "

"Hi Pete: One of the most important pieces of instruction a teacher could ever give you, in my opinion, has to do with club fitting. It is well known among astute teachers of this game that golf clubs do absolutely create a condition in your swing. That condition can either create a balanced motion or it can
cause very damaging swing compensations. The first thing I would suggest would be to look into a line of clubs that I not only am certified to fit with, but what I believe to be the best your money can buy.  Henry Griffitts Precision Fit Golf Clubs. They have a web site that list teachers in your area that are certified teachers and club fitters.  www.henry-griffitts.com  I wish you nothing but the best in your search for a better game of golf. If you are ever in my area and need a lesson, please let me know."

"In selecting clubs you need first look at what clubs are suited for your game. Try different clubs to see how they look and feel to you. You should be custom fitted for your set by a PGA professional. I would take a look at the Ping I3 blade, the Titleist 762's, in addition to the Hogan clubs you mentioned. The psychology of how a club looks to you at address is extremely important, almost as important as the playability of the club." - Ben Hynson, Teaching Professional
South Carolina
"Hogan  Edge   offer  the  FEEL  THAT  IS  REAL  ..  Everyday  I  play  with Forged  Clubs  the  feel  is  superior  !  Everyday  as  I  teach  I  us  my  students  clubs  and sometimes   I  go   "ugghh " !   Hogan  Edge   offers  feel  and  the  perimeter  weighted  benifits  of  bigger  sweet  spot  and  Higher  Trajectory  ...     Now  let  a  PGA   Professional    fit  you  for  length  and  shaft Flex      LIKE  A  TAILOR   fits  you for  a  coat.  You  want  it to  fit." - Doug  Weaver, Teaching Professional
Texas
"DIFFICULT QUESTION AS IT IS PROPRIETARY IN NATURE.  AS I DON'T SELL CLUBS, I AM PRETTY OBJECTIVE.  CALLAWAY MAKES A GREAT SET OF IRONS AS DOES PING, IN THE I3'S.  HOWEVER, HOGAN EDGE WILL WORK FOR YOU IF YOU WERE AN 8 HANDICAP, MAKE SURE YOU GET FIT FOR GRIP SIZE, SHAFT FLEX, LIE, ETC." - Mr. Kim Brown, Teaching Professional
Virginia
"Hi Pete: Hogan Edge clubs are about as good as money can buy. BUT you have to try them, as well as other top brands, to make sure you: 1. like the looks of them and, 2. like the feel of them when you hit balls. A good golf store or facility will let you hit some balls with demo clubs. If the store doesn't want to do that, find one that does. Buying a new set of clubs is too much of an investment for you not to be able to try them out  first." - Bob Benning, Teaching Professional
