From Mark, golfer:
It appears that from my 3 iron to my 7 iron, I have a push slice (I am right-handed). When I hit the ball, it starts off right and continually goes right. It started happening ever since I started hitting my driver well. Help!

"Dear Mark, here's how you get straightened out. Check your left hand grip. You need to see three knuckles (on top of hand). Check your impact position in slo-motion. The club-face must be turned in (the toe of the club closer to the target), with your left hip slightly turned. Your right arm must cross over your left arm. Try this with small swings then lengthen. Good Luck."

"Mark: First I would check my basic fundamentals in regards to ball position, posture and distance from the ball.  You have an open face with the irons which could be set up.  Make sure your longer irons are in the front of your stance(1-4 irons) and mid irons 5-7 half way between your front heel, and center of your heels, and the shorter irons 8-SW center. Take two clubs and set them up just like this,   T  .  The top of the T  is for your target line and the bottom I is for ball position.  Then check tempo.  Slow the
irons down and focus on good contact. Good luck." - Scott Mayer, Teaching Professional

"Hey Mark: Without seeing your swing, it sounds to me like you may have a problem with face angle at impact. I would suggest checking your grip first and making sure that it is in a neutral to strong position. Look in front of a mirror and make sure that the two V's formed by your index finger and thumb are both pointed at your right shoulder.  If your V's are pointed  at your chin your going to have problems getting the face square at impact. When you are at the range ask someone to stand behind you and ask them if the face angle of the club is on the same angle as your left forearm at the top of your back swing. If it isn't and is pointing towards the ground, your face is open and  you will likely hit a slice. If you can't figure it out on your own, find someone with a good teaching reputation in you area have your swing looked at." - Owen Dawson, Teaching Professional

"Mark: It sounds like you are not getting behind the ball that you are not transferring your weight to the right side. Check to make sure that you are getting your left shoulder over your right foot and that your balance is inside the right heel." - Penny Larsen, Teaching Professional

"Sounds like you are coming out of your shot, which means standing up or coming out of your posture. The angle that you set at address needs to be at your right hip at impact. Also your hips maybe getting in front and your arms can not catch up. From the top of your back swing allow your arms to drop to your shoulder before you begin your hip turn." - Don Beardsley, Teaching Professional

"Mark: The obvious question is what did you do to hit your driver well? Whatever you have done to get that club working well will also work for these clubs too. It is hard enough trying to remember one swing, let alone two or more swings. If you have adjusted your ball position, make sure that you have not over exaggerated that change to these clubs. I would also make sure that you are transferring weight properly and in rhythm. If weight is being held back behind the ball, this can create that shot pattern. The funny thing about your problem is that it does not appear in your 8-wedges. You should see the same shot pattern with all clubs, if it is truly a path issue. Let me know if I can help further."
