From Mike, golfer:
How do I learn the whip-like acceleration the pros and top amateurs achieve? Thanks for your valued input.
PGA/LPGA TEACHING PROFESSIONAL RESPONSES:

"If you swing the club from the top to the finish of your swing (in the direction of the target) with your arms, keeping it constant with no change at impact, you will get all the whip-like feel you want. If you try to get the whip-like action you will produce hand action and you don't want that as it will make you cast. The arms are what give you your speed, so let them do the work."

"Mike: Thank you for asking how to improve your shot-making. The whip-like action starts with a good hand position on the club. Your hands are the heartbeat of the swing that will produce the correct release of the wrists at the right time if you let them react rather than initiate during the swing. that is
the whip I think you are referring to. Yes, that is what lets the club do the work! It also needs to be met with a good posture that is maintained during the swing. Let me know if I can be of future assistance.
Thanks again." - Julie Brown, Teaching Professional

"You must create torque between the upper and lower halves of your body by resisting you shoulder turn with your legs and hips. The whip come from the resulting "rebound."

"Mike: Try holding the club by the shaft up by the head, with the grip end extended away from you. Take your normal swing and try to make the club make a swishing noise. try to swing it faster and then faster and make louder swishing noises. Notice that you never loose your balance with this drill. When you reverse the club and grip it normally, try to make the same swishing noise without balance loss. You will be on your way to increasing your club head speed. Keep swinging!"

"THIS  is  called  the  release  !  In  a  lesson  ask  how to  release  the  club  .  #1 Grip  it  strong  to learn the  feel  .Strong  is  a  position  not  tight pressure.  Strong  is  more  in  the  fingers  of  the  left  hand  ....  Seeing  3  knuckles  and  almost  all the  logo  on  the  glove  ...  Be  careful ..  This  is  where  a  lesson  is  important .. You  will be  able  to  do  this  and  still be  doing  wrong  .....  A  PGA  Professionals  hands  on  will place  it  on  there perfectly  and  reinforce  it  all the  lesson  .     # 2  Relax  the  hands and  keep  them  passive  /relaxed  all thru  the  swing  ......     # 3  Lift  the  club  to  waist  height    toe  to  the  sky   or  9:00 position.  and  let  it  fall  . The  club  falling  at  40  mph  wil  rotate  your  supple  hands  and  forearms to  the  square  position  at  impact  and  over  to  toe  to  the  sky  at  3:00  position  .."  I  can  give  you  the  FEEL  in  10  seconds  during  a  lesson .  In  written  words  it  may  take  a  book  ....and  you still don't  get  it  .  THE  FEEL  IS  a  SNAP  of  power  that   YOU  did  NOT  cause  ......... Most  amateurs  try  to  force  the  release  ....  SAY  THIS  after  me  "  GOLF  is  a game  of  opposites  "  ______________________ ..   The  harder  I  try  the  worse   I  do  ..   When  I  Force  something  to  happen  it  does  not  happen ,,  When  I  let  it  happen  it  HAPPENS  .................  Let  one  of  us  Help you  to  understand  how  to  let  the  club  do  the  work!" - Doug  Weaver, Teaching Professional

"Try getting in an address position take a club and fold your arms with the club in them and keeping the club parallel with your shoulders twist from side to side slowly. Pick a target on both sides and do this every day and you will gain range on your swing. After a while you will need to move your targets and go further . I know this is not what you ask for but people have gained a lot more turn and that means distance. Good luck!" - Doyal Chadwick, Teaching Professional

"COIL YOUR SHOULDERS FULLY, COIL YOUR HIPS 1/2 OF THAT AMOUNT, KEEP YOUR BALANCE, DON'T START THE CLUB DOWN WITH YOUR HANDS, BUT JUST LET THE HANDS "DROP OFF THE TABLE", AND FOCUS MOSTLY ON A FULL FINISH."
