Shaun Bezilla: Golf Is Just a Game Even though Shaun Bezilla has experienced success in the game of golf, he’ll be the first to tell you that golf is just that: a game. He believes greater success has come to him in the form of a loving wife and his two beautiful daughters, Zoey (3) and Madison (1). “Golf
is
a
great
game,”
says
Bezilla,
“and
the
business
of
golf
isn’t
bad,
either.
Keeping
balance
between
them
and
finding
time
for
family
is
the
hardest
part.”
When
Bezilla
reminds
himself
on
and
off
the
course
that
it’s
only
a
game,
he
finds
it
much
easier
to
keep
things
in
perspective
and
help
others
truly
improve.
“I
thoroughly
enjoy
assisting
others
in
achieving
their
golf
goals,”
adds
Bezilla.
“I
wish
for
everyone
I
work
with
success
both
on
and
off
the
golf
course.” Bezilla
learned
the
game
from
his
father,
but
began
taking
it
seriously
when
he
played
in
high
school.
That
led
to
pursuing
it
further
in
college,
in
particular
at
Ferris
State
University
in
Michigan.
Bezilla
enrolled
in
the
Professional
Golf
Management
Program
there,
and
after
graduating,
took
an
Assistant
Professional’s
position
at
Amelia
Island
Plantation
in
North
Florida. “While
I
was
at
Amelia
Island,
I
began
teaching
private
lessons
and
really
expanding
my
knowledge
of
the
golf
swing,”
says
Bezilla,
who
later
returned
to
Michigan
to
take
a
position
as
the
director
of
a
new
academy
at
Little
Traverse
Bay
Golf
Club
in
Harbor
Springs.
He
is
also
a
staff
member
on-line
for
the
Internet
Golf
Academy
and
uses
the
V-1
video
analysis
system
frequently
while
teaching. Finding
time
to
work
on
his
own
game
while
providing
a
full
lesson
schedule
is
often
a
challenge,
so
for
Bezilla,
practicing
and
playing
in
“spurts”
is
his
only
option.
“I
obviously
enjoy
the
game
a
great
deal
and
find
it
to
be
ultimately
challenging,”
says
Bezilla,
“but
I
enjoy
the
business
of
golf
most
of
all
because
it
gives
me
an
opportunity
to
help
others.”
Bezilla
considers
himself
a
better
than
average
putter,
and
he
has
confidence
in
his
short
game
as
well.
Problems
for
Bezilla
are
usually
related
to
consistency,
and
that
is
likely
due
to
his
lack
of
personal
practice
time. “Helping
others
and
providing
a
memorable
experience
brings
me
a
lot
of
joy
and
satisfaction,”
says
Bezilla,
who
is
in
his
5th
year
at
Little
Traverse
Bay.
Two
students
who’ve
benefited
by
Bezilla’s
knowledge
of
the
game
and
the
golf
swing
are
his
sister,
who
now
plays
for
the
University
of
Michigan
Women’s
Golf
Team,
and
Kevin
Adaline,
a
golfer
who
made
Iowa
State’s
Men’s
Team. Inspired by his wife and children, Bezilla continues to build his career as a PGA Professional and looks forward to sharing his expertise with golfers of all abilities. “It isn’t easy,” says Bezilla, “being married to a golf professional. My wife’s patience and understanding has allowed me to get this far – she both inspires me and drives me to be a better person.” After all, it’s only a game…you can learn more about lessons with Bezilla by e-mailing him at sbezilla@pga.com. Thanks for sharing, Shaun! |
