Jack Gale: The
Pleasure of Working with People
Jack Gale
enjoys watching golf, reading about golf, teaching golf and playing golf.
Why? Well, he loves the game. But he’s also drawn to it because it allows
him to work with people. Having done so for over 31 years, Gale never
tires of the joy he brings to others by helping them improve some aspect
of their game.
"I
like watching players improve and achieve greater enjoyment of the game
because of it," says Gale, who attracts students primarily because of his
experience and his methods. "People appreciate my knowledge of the golf
swing and how I teach it," adds Gale. Those taking lessons from Gale can
expect to learn more about the golf swing and set-up than they ever knew
before, resulting in a better overall game. Gale himself stays focused on
the fundamentals during his own rounds of golf, relying on the basics to
get him through any rough spots.
"I just think of the basics: posture, alignment, grip," says Gale. He’s
trusted those seemingly simple factors throughout his career while
participating in two Buy.com tournaments, numerous NEPGA tournaments and
the Bermuda Goodwill Tournament. Gale also played golf in high school and
college, having first taken up the game at age 14. Gale’s favorite shots
to make are flop shots, while he finds putts to win a tournament to be the
most challenging shots. This didn’t seem to phase him, however, when he
made a 15-foot birdie putt to win the NEPGA Pro-Pro Match Play
Championship.
Gale practices his own game by beginning with the shorter clubs and
working his way through the bag. He recommends beginners take lessons to
get them started on the right track. Intermediate golfers should also get
instruction and practice regularly what they’ve been taught. Advanced
players need to continue instruction and practice, but they should also
get involved in competition. Gale works with a 16-year-old boy who won the
Massachusetts Junior Championship in 2002 and qualified for the USGA
Juniors in Atlanta - just one more person he’s had the pleasure of helping
over the years. Gale also works with an 11 year old girl who last summer
won the Massachusetts 13 and under Girls Championship.
A Worcester, Massachusetts resident, Gale and his wife, Mary, have three
children: Joseph (25), Michael (23) and Daniel (23). When he’s not
teaching at Tatnuck Driving Range or The Golf Dome, you might find Gale on
a lake fishing for largemouth bass. You can reach Gale for more info at
TatnuckPro@aol.com.
Thanks, Jack!
