Joe Salvaggio: Swing the Club Head
Joe Salvaggio helps his students help themselves. Following the pure method of World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee Ernest Jones, Salvaggio teaches his players a self-correcting swinging motion. "All of my students from pros to beginners have improved with this proven method," says Salvaggio, who teaches at Sunrise Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. "The brain can only think of one thing during the 1 1/2 seconds it takes to swing the golf club," notes Salvaggio. "So my students think of only one thing: swing the club head."

Salvaggio describes a new golfer who went through his program for three weeks: "In his first complete round of golf after the program he shot 92, with five clubs in his bag that were made in the 1950's. It was pretty amazing to see someone shoot 92 for their first round ever. That man from New York is now a five handicap in less than three years practicing the self-correcting method."

Salvaggio first picked up the game of golf age 12. He decided to stick with it as a career because he felt there were many opportunities within the game to work with people. He enjoys helping people improve and watching them experience the satisfaction of a successful shot. Salvaggio knows how it feels to succeed on the course; he graduated from Barnstable High School in 1982, where he was captain of the golf team that came in 8th in the state. Later, he graduated from Florida Southern College, which has won three Division II National Championship. More recently, he has competed in several Buy.com events and on the NFPGA Winter Tour and the Moonlight Tour. Salvaggio is also the Defending Champion in the Bridgeport Pro-Pro Championship with S. Enriquez.

"I teach a method that gives the students the answers to correct their own problems," says Salvaggio of his approach to lessons. In fact, all students come to him specifically for training on self-correction. Salvaggio also knows how to have fun with the training and get people to enjoy the game. "They get so excited when they hole shots with their eyes closed," notes Salvaggio.

Salvaggio tends to keep his eyes open while playing his own game. In fact, Salvaggio considers the best part of his game to be his course management. His favorite shots to play are long shots into reachable par 5's. His most difficult shots are those that require a conservative approach, taking a birdie out of play to avoid a double-bogey. "When things are not going well out on the course, I just try to appreciate that it will get better and that there will be other opportunities in the future," says Salvaggio, who's favorite course to play is Bay Harbor in Michigan.

Salvaggio also enjoys traveling to Pebble Beach. You might find him there teeing it up on vacation, typically dressed in khaki, navy, and white. "I always use the same divot repair tool and brass ball marker, and I must always have a small wet towel to go to the green with," notes Salvaggio. When he's watching golf, Salvaggio enjoys keeping an eye on Tiger Woods, who is a great motivational model. "He works on improvement continuously," marvels Salvaggio.

Born in Needham, Massachusetts in 1964, Salvaggio has lived in Sarasota, Florida for seven years. Joe has a daughter, Brooke, who is an avid golfer. When he's not on the course or the practice tee, Salvaggio enjoys playing soccer and fishing. Recently, Salvaggio has been working on taking his game to the next level in an effort to get to the PGA Tour. For Lessons or Sponsorship please contact Salvaggio via e-mail at joegolf64@hotmail.com.
