STRAIGHT LEFT ARM...NO! (Brad Pluth)

FLAT LEFT WRIST! Ever wonder how the Tour Professionals hit the ball so straight? One of the keys is in their left wrist during the downswing and through impact. During the setup, each individual professional may start differently, whether their left wrist is bowed, arched or flat, but by the time they get to the top of their swing, their left wrist is flat and remains that way through impact. This is also a reason the proper grip is integral to a sound golf swing.

One drill to ensure that your left wrist is flat is the slow-motion exercise. Swing with your eyes closed in slow motion and at the top of your swing, stop, look at the position of your left wrist to identify if it is flat or not. Correct the position of your left wrist if necessary and proceed to close your eyes and continue your downswing to the impact position. Open your eyes and check the position of your left wrist. Correct if necessary and continue your swing to a balanced follow through position.

In review, the position of your left wrist is critical to hitting straighter shots and can be perfected using the slow motion drill to ingrain the habits of the Tour Professionals.
